About the Director

DAVID EDWARDS (Director) appeared as both Max Bialystock and Roger DeBris in the First National Tour of THE PRODUCERS directed by Susan Stroman.  He has also directed the musical regionally, most recently at Surflight Theatre in Beach Haven, New Jersey.  As an actor, his Broadway credits include BY JEEVES and THE ROTHSCHILDS.  He was the final "El Gallo" in the original record-breaking run of THE FANTASTICKS and recently starred in the criically acclaimed revival of ROOM SERVICE at the Soho Playhouse.  Other New York acting credits include THE DISPUTATION, DR. SEX, THE ROAR OF THE GREASEPAINT..., THAT'S LIFE, JOLSON & CO., WHAT'S A NICE COUNTRY LIKE YOU DOING IN A STATE LIKE THIS?, ZION, COMPANY, and BITTERSUITE.  Westchester Broadway Theatre audiences will remember him as Don Quixote in MAN OF LA MANCHA, Albin in LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, Scrooge in two different versions of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, and most recently, in PHANTOM.  Favorite regional roles include Fredrick in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, John Adams in 1776, King Arthur in CAMELOT and Jeff Moss in BELLS ARE RINGING, as well as leads in such plays as THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP, DRIVING MISS DAISY, and DIAL 'M' FOR MURDER.  He won the Star Ledger Award for Best Musical Actor for his work in LITTLE ME with the American Stage Company, and he has acted at major regional theatres across the country, including The Ordway, Eugene O'Neill Center, Syracuse Stage, Portland Stage Company, GeVa, and The Old Globe.  He has also appeared in films and television, and as a guest artist in concerts and opera houses.  He directed the world premiere of the new musical THE MAGICIAN OF LUBLIN and the New York production of TD/KARMA IS A BOOMERANG.  In addition to THE PRODUCERS, he has directed regional productions of SOUTH PACIFIC, RUMORS, THE FANTASTICKS, and SHOWBOAT.

Broadway producer Max Bialystock is famous for his spectacular opening night flops.
Leopold Bloom is an uptight accountant who virtually discovers gold while reviewing
Max’s books. When Leo realizes that you can actually make more money with a flop
than with a hit the two team up and begin a search for both the worst script and the
worst director they can find to ensure failure. The script selection seems easy when
the duo stumble upon SPRINGTIME FOR HITLER an homage to the Fuhrer penned by
Franz Liebkind a German sympathetic to the Nazi cause. Convinced that the script
will incite outrage the duo needs a bad director to seal the deal.  Campy director
Roger DeBris and his assistant fit the bill perfectly. But when their scheme fails Max
and Leo find themselves with the worst possible outcome: a hit. To make matters worse
Franz is just a little peeved that Hitler was depicted disrespectfully--and he has a gun.
Will Max and Leo survive the playwright’s wrath? Will they go to jail for cooking the books?
And will Leo ever submit to the advances of sexy Swedish receptionist/actress Ulla.
This riotous romp features lots of laughs.
The show was an unprecedented hit on Broadway.
