David Edwards is Home For The Holidays!
David has had the pleasure of participating in several holiday shows at the Westchester Broadway Theatre over the years as an actor, but this year he presents a story of his own. HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS, a Christmas jukebox musical plays throughout December 23. David Edwards Directs as well as performs in the show he co-wrote with partner, Tony Javed. When David was a toddler, his grandmother took him to see THE SOUND OF MUSIC on Broadway with Mary Martin. His dad still can’t believe he remembers it because he was so young, but he remembers vivid images of the show and wanting to be one of those kids on the stage. David caught the theatre bug for sure, and for years he thought all nuns were actresses.
Home For The Holidays is Co-written by Tony Javed, the score is a memorable mix of old favorites and new classics wrapped in a story of traditonal holiday themes of love and hope told for today’s audiences. A Christmas show is a great way to bring the spirit of the season into your life, so why not join in some family fun? With their soldier son hoping to get be home from Afghanistan for Christmas, daughter who is in college on the West Coast finishing final exams also preparing to come home for Christmas, and younger children preparing for their Christmas pageant the show follows the journey of a “typical” American family from the day after Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve as they surmount the challenges of modern life and, ultimately, rediscover the true meaning of the season.
Home For The Holidays
Director of Home For The Holidays, David Edwards:
"The wonderful holiday shows at WBT have become somewhat of a tradition for me. I am proud to have been part of the cast of CHRISTMAS VOYAGER (twice!) and to have played Scrooge in three different versions of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. In addition, it has been a gift to me to be a part of so many other WBT productions over the years, both as a performer and director. This year I hope to give a gift back to the audiences with HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS, a brand new holiday musical written just for the WBT. Tony Javed and I have come up with a show that chronicles the life of a contemporary American family during the holiday season , weaving in a varied musical score that includes traditional favorites along with some lovely new surprises and contemporary holiday songs, and just a smattering of classic Broadway show tunes, a “musical menu” that we think audiences will find funny, touching, and joyous. We’re having a great time putting it together and we think there’s going to be something for everyone in this show. We very much want it to be refreshing and new while very much in keeping with the traditional high standard of the holiday fare at Westchester Broadway Theatre. "

My Fair Lady, based on George Bernard Shaw’s classic play Pygmalion, tells the familiar story of Eliza Doolittle, a Covent Garden flower peddler who agrees to take speech lessons from phonetician Henry Higgins in order to fulfill her dream of working in a flower shop. However, Eliza succeeds so well that she outgrows her lowly social status, and manages to become an indispensable part of Higgins’ life. The original 1956 production of My Fair Lady with Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews enjoyed a seven year run on Broadway leading to the 1964 film which won several Oscars, including Best Picture.
