Recently unearthed photos of Scott Bierko playing the Professor in a 1974 production of The Music Man at Ridge Street School in Rye Brook, NY. The girl in one of the photos is Karen Adler, a fellow fifth grade student who played Marian Paroo.
"The set was comprised of discarded refrigerator boxes painted to look like River City. The coat I'm wearing in these photos was lent to me by Mrs. Carol Corwin, the mother of one of the cast members. The straw hat, a prized trophy for me, sat in my bedroom until the time I went to college." Scott Bierko

Victoria Lauzun as Marian Paroo and with Tom Ammirato (Charlie Cowell) and with Scott Bierko (Harold Hill) In The Music Man
I was born and raised in the Detroit area of Michigan, with my younger sister and brother until the age of 18, at which point I was encouraged to move to New York to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and pursue a career in theatre.
Growing up, I was primarily a classically trained singer with the thought of becoming an opera singer. I began taking a college course as a Junior in high school with the Michigan born opera singer Elizabeth Parcells, who was a huge force of warm encouragement in my life, as well as my primary voice teacher Kaye Rittinger.
While the opera world intrigued me, I had always been mesmerized by musicals, specifically the old standards such as "The Music Man". My first encounter with this beautiful show really was the turning point that started me down this path. As a young girl I was taken on a field trip to see the musical currently playing at the local high school. Now, I had seen professional theatre before, but watching these kids that were not too much older than I, putting on "The Music Man", made me realize with a great deal of excitement that it was something within my reach - I was capable of doing that in a few years, and I absolutely had to play Marian Paroo at some point in my life. Playing this strong complex woman can now be checked off my list of dream roles!
Another example of a dream role is Cunegonde in "Candide"...you'll basically find any role played by the phenomenal Barbara Cook on that list. In fact, a picture of me with the original Marian graces my mirror space in the dressing room.
When not on stage, I am hanging out with my boyfriend Tom Ammirato (Charlie Cowell) - yes, we find it hilarious that I have to wipe my mouth in disgust after we kiss. You can also find me at times as an usher at the Walter Kerr Theatre. I feel so lucky to be living this dream out here, with nothing but love and support from my family!
