Jeannie Shubitz has joined the cast of Kiss Me Kate as Kate/Lilli... She jumped in and has been wowing audiences with her fiery portrayal!I grew up in Tucson, AZ, the youngest of four girls, and daughter of a physics teacher and an english teacher.I been so fortunate to have the guidance and support of so many people throughout my life, from teachers and family to directors and fellow actors. The word "mentor" doesn't begin to cover the gratitude i feel! From the time that i was a little girl, i was always energized and invigorated by being on stage. My mom would joke that it would take me hours to come back down to the ground after a concert or a show. As i grew up, I found that the work of building a character, and through that character connecting with an audience, was also an intensely gratifying experience.I honestly can't say when Kiss Me, Kate! first came onto my radar. It seems as though Cole Porter has always been there, doesn't it? I can say that Lilli/Kate has been on my "really want to do" list for a while, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to play it here at WBT!Goodness, the list of favorite shows is long. Ragtime is right up there near the top - i think it's a near perfect show. I also find Carousel to be heartbreakingly beautiful, even with its dated and somewhat difficult sensibilities. With regards to dream roles, I've always wanted to play Amalia in She Loves Me! and Maria in The Sound of Music. In my off time, I love being outdoors as much as possible, kayaking, hiking or just walking through the city. I also love food and drink, and laughing as much as possible! (I feel like I'm filling out an online dating profile... ;)I listen so many different kinds of music that i wouldn't know where to start! We have been listening to lots of Django Reinhardt and prohibition-era jazz in our dressing room before the show. I also love listening to podcasts while i'm running or driving, and I think "This American Life" on NPR is simply brilliant.
