"Happy Days" Brings Happy Nostalgia to Westcherter Broadway TheatrePublished: Thursday, May 19, 2016 By: George J. Dacre Source: Rockland County Times
With Paul Williams score and a very active choreographed production, "Happy Days, The Musical" is a spot on at WBT in Elmsford, taking the audience back to the good ol' 1950's. The TV show Happy Days with the Fonz and all the characters was watched by an estimated 50 million viewers each week during its peak in the late 70s and early 80s.
The fabled Westchester Broadway Theatre has another winner in in this 196th production put on by the producers Bill Stutler and Bob Funking, with Jonathan Stahl's astute direction it moves and grooves. Never a dull moment in this one as Fonzie, very aptly portrayed by Nick Varricchio, Richie (Herb Porter) Arnold (Peter Marino), Potsie (Michael Linden), Chachi (Mike D'Amico), Pinky (Maria Logan) and with Lori Hamel as Marion and Peter Davenport as Howard (the Cunninghams) and a really outstanding cast. In this play Arnold's Diner (with the jukebox) life is threatened with extinction by a potential parking lot and mall that would replace it. Fonzie and friends fight the good battle to preserve their heritage.
Gary Marshall's story of "Happy Days" holds up and Paul William's music results in a great show. The 50's era rock n roll is just as good today as it was way back then and is refreshing compared to some of the music we are hearing today.
And guess what... there is a great ending to "Happy Days," The Musical. I rate it Four Out Of Four Stars.
