Last Night my Husband & I had the pleasure of being invited to a press opening of Guys & Dolls atWestchester Broadway Theatre .

Guys & Dolls which is set in the colorful world during the prohibition in New York City.  Is  Considered to be one of the greatest musicals of all time. Guys & Dolls  has one of the greatest musical scores in the history of American theatre. Including hits such as  “Luck Be A Lady”, “Guys and Dolls”, “If I Were A Bell, and “Sit Down Your Rockin’ The Boat”.

Based in New York  the city that never sleeps where The news seller ,  the chorus girl,   the gambler and the missionary,  seem to get caught up in the teeming vitality of the city streets.

Every character  from Damon Runyon’s  story has a story of their own.  Sergeant Sarah Brown , of the Save a Soul Mission, vainly trys to spread the word, and make a difference to the sin and depravity of the streets, full of tipsters, gamblers, and con men. Adelaide , the showgirl who is desperate to leave behind her seemingly glamorous lifestyle for a white picket fence and roses round the door.  And then there is Nathan Detroit , trying to find yet another new location for his floating dice game all while trying to keep just one short step ahead of the law. Let’s not forget the  gamblers themselves, eager for just one more roll. My favorite was Nicely Nicely Johnson,  something about him I related to.  All waiting for that winning streak that will keep them ahead of the game.  Sky Masterson ,  the coolest high roller of them all, who would bet on anything that would turn him a profit.

Adelaide who has been engaged to Nathan for over 14 years, learns that although she would like to change the man that she  loves that it is sometimes easier said then done.  Sergeant Sarah who falls in love with Sky comes to realize we can’t change the Guy we love,  being who he is might just be the reason why we might have fallen in love with him.

A little bit about the  great actors and their ensemble who had our toes tapping from the opening act last night.
