consists of: hip-hop, salsa, pop, soul, reggae, cha-cha and mambo are the main highlights. The “Carnival del Barrio” number is worth the price of admission alone. The original choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and reproduced by Morgan Marcell, takes full advantage of the projected stage.
Perry Young plays the fast-talking rapper/narrator, “Usnavi,” who is in love with the fiery “Vanessa” (Gizel Jimenez). Christina Aranda, who played the role of the grandmother in the National Tour, gives an outstanding, soulful performance here as well. Arielle Jacobs is the rebellious, college drop out “Nina.”
Her mother, Nicole Sarro, and father, Benjamen Perez render heartfelt solos, and Ariana Valdes is the colorful hairdresser, “Daniela.” Nina’s lover “Bennie” is the actor known as Fatye. He was the principal performer in WBT’s “Big River.” It may be cold outside but you can warm up nicely inside the luxurious WBT. The dinner theatre’s menu offers a couple of authentic Spanish dishes along with its regular menu choices and the parking is free.
