Westchester Broadway Theatre presents The Wizard of OzPublished: Monday, August 11, 2014 By: Siobhan Brchnel Source: Macaroni Kid Riverdale/Inwood
My husband and I had the opportunity to see The Wizard of Oz at the Westchester Broadway Theatre. It was an all-too-rare date night for us, and it was a very enjoyable evening.
Westchester Broadway Theatre combines fine dining with Broadway Musicals to make those nights-out truly special. Ticket purchases include dinner - which consists of a salad, entree and dessert. With a number of delicious food options to choose from, you are sure to be satisfied.
After dessert, the show began. Like most people, I have seen the Judy Garland version of The Wizard of Oz, but I have never seen a live performance. I have to say, I was honestly blown away (and it wasn't from the twister!).
The acting was first-rate, the singing & choreography were phenomenal, and the Wicked Witch had the requisite hair-raising cackle!
This production stayed close to the classic 1939 movie, but included an additional verse originally removed from the song "Over the Rainbow" as well as an entire song & dance number titled "The Jitterbug," which was also cut from the motion picture.
What was especially great about this play, was that it is truly family-friendly. While some younger kids may be a bit too scared of that Wicked Witch, older kids would absolutely love this show. With charming characters and colorful scenery, The Wizard of Oz is a warm fantasy that most kids, with their wild and vivid imaginations, would thoroughly enjoy. After all, who hasn't wondered what may lie over the rainbow?
