Arielle Jacobs stars as Nina in Westchester Broadway Theatre's production of the Tony-winning musical In the Heights, reprising the role she played in the final Broadway company. She documented the rehearsal experience and shares these exclusive photos with Playbill.com.
"We are so lucky to do what we do, and when it aligns with what we call 'family,' then we are truly blessed," says Jacobs. "In the Heights is a unique experience... magical, deeply moving, and electrifying. It invites the audience to step into another world, to feel its rhythms and heartbeat, long enough to realize that we all actually want the same thing: to feel seen and to feel that we are where we belong."
"Our producers, Mennie and Shelly Mallah, have also given us that gift, because our cast truly feels that we belong: we feel appreciated, seen and uplifted by the warmth of their welcome. I'm grateful to have this opportunity to bring such a massively impactful show to thousands of new people, while I get to play onstage with such a wonderful and talented cast!"
The WBT staging of the the Tony Award-winning musical about the colorful inhabitants of Washington Heights reflects the work of its original Tony-winning choreographer, Andy Blankenbuehler. It will run through March 17.
Penned by Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, with a libretto by Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes, In the Heights is staged for WBT audiences by John Fanelli. Fanelli's Standing Ovation Studios presents the Westchester run.
Morgan Marcell re-creates Blankenbuehler's original choreography. Shelton Becton serves as musical director, with Antuan "Magic" Raimone as Marcell's assistant and the dance captain. Jacobs, who played Nina in the national tour and Broadway productions of In the Heights, reprises her role with Perry Young as Usnavi, Christina Aranda as Abuela Claudia, FaTye as Benny, Joey Sanzaro as Piragua Guy and original Broadway ensemble dancer
