Audience members are immediately dazzled by the complex choreography- which includes actors leaping in the air, executing impressive flips or performing a fun tap dance number. The Westchester Broadway Theatre is a venue that brings quality performances to Westchester County and this production of Newsies is a great example of the fabulous work this theater puts on. For those who missed the Broadway debut be sure to check out this rendition by May 26!
Experience old New York in this musical based on the 1992 Disney movie about the real-life Newsie Strike of 1899. Set at the turn of the twentieth century, Disney’s Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy, and leader of a ragged band of teenaged “newsies” who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys and newsgirls’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right. With help from the intrepid reporter Katherine Plumber, all of New York City soon recognizes the power of young people.
A large cast of 25 talented actors from all over the country is in this production. Starring Daniel Scott Walton (as Jack Kelly), Mary Beth Donahoe (as Katherine Plummer), Stuart Marland (as Joseph Pulitzer), Galyana Castillo (as Medda), Alec Cohen (as Davey), Patrick Tombs (as Crutchie) and Benjamin Wohl (as Les). The brilliant ensemble includes Bill Bateman, Chris Cardelia, Bruce Crilly, E.J. Dohring, Zeke Edmonds, Michael Gorman, David Grindrod, Aliah James, Stephen C. Kallas, T.J. Kubler, Kyle Laing, Gary Lynch, Holly Moss, Stephanie Eve Parker, Tyler Sparacio, Daxx Jayroe Weiser, and Josh Zacher. Benjamin Wohl, the youngest member of the cast, will certainly bring a smile to your face with his adorable portrayal of Les.
